The Short Answer
Because we use gold vermeil and PVD-coated stainless steel, your jewellery is highly unlikely to tarnish under normal wear.
We carefully choose materials specifically for their durability and resistance.
This isn’t fast-fashion plating. It’s made to last.
Why Our Jewellery Resists Tarnishing
Tarnishing happens when metal reacts with moisture, oxygen, sweat or chemicals. Lower-quality pieces — especially thin gold plating over brass — can react quickly.
At LUCID, we don’t use those materials.
Gold Vermeil
Gold vermeil features a thick layer of real gold over sterling silver. The gold layer is significantly thicker than standard plating, making it far more durable and resistant to fading.
PVD-Coated Stainless Steel
PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) is a high-performance bonding process that fuses gold to stainless steel at a molecular level. Combined with stainless steel — which is already corrosion-resistant — this creates a finish that is extremely hard-wearing.
The result is jewellery that keeps its colour and shine, even with frequent wear.
Under normal daily use, tarnishing is very unlikely.
Can You Wear It Every Day?
Yes.
Our pieces are designed for real life — work, dinner, travel, layering, everyday moments.
They’re resistant to water, sweat and daily friction far more than standard gold-plated jewellery.
That said, like all fine jewellery, avoiding prolonged exposure to harsh chemicals (such as chlorine, strong shampoos or cleaning products) will always help preserve the finish even longer.
But you don’t need to baby it.
A Little Care Goes a Long Way
Even though tarnishing is unlikely, simple care keeps your jewellery looking luminous for years:
Avoid prolonged exposure to chlorine or harsh chemicals
Apply perfume or hairspray before putting jewellery on
Store pieces separately to prevent scratches
Gently wipe clean after wearing
Every LUCID order includes a complimentary polishing cloth. A soft wipe now and then removes natural oils and keeps your piece looking as beautiful as the day you received it.
